Global Csf/str Editor

Recommended Posts

Ive been making this program for about a week now and you can edit any CSF or STR file from the sage engine

Ive been working on this alot lately!

Ive figured out the CSF File format (good news!)

Im about 95% done with it, it has(will have) these capabilities

Export to BIG *done*

Export to CompressedBIG

Export to INI *done*

Save to CSF *done*

Save to CompressedCSF

Save to STR *done*

Save to CompressedSTR

Import from BIG *done*

Import from CompressedBIG *done*

Import from INI *done*

Open from CSF *done*

Open from CompressedCSF *done*

Open from STR *done*

Open from CompressedSTR *done*

Its compatible with all CNC games, and all BFME games

Also different ways of organizing, viewing, searching, and manipulating strings

The decompression algorithm for importing and opening is my own, its done in VB.net

I will post about the CSF file format if EA permits me..

One might say this is overkill on such a 'simple program' but I wanted to cover every aspect of editing string files. Comments/Ideas?

so is this it? I obviously don't have the slightest clue about this stuff, but is this a huge step forward for modding?

I full fledged 'Mod Creator' has been in the works for some time now, but its been paused due to the unknown xml format. That is one program i started (2 modes, text mode and hit'n'click mode) The mod creator is the total package to viewing textures, models, inis, xmls, particle effects, and all UI elements. Of course it wont be out for months due to sdk's late release

Editing the inis is easy.

Especially now that I can read the .manifest/.bin files, so I know what values are valid.

Editing the .str file is also easy.

Both just need a text editor (such as notepad) and OS Big Editor. Then use FinalBig to put them into a new big file, and you have your mod.

Check out my Mutants and Dune mod for examples of what you can do by editing those things.

In C&C3 the CSF Files are compressed with RefPack compression, and I assume they also compressed STR so I have that included to..
