    Funny Quotes And Jokes Thread

Fail. Gaming demographics are going up in age, actually; the majority of gamers are now in their twenties at least, with a significant number in their thirties. (And if you figure casual gaming in, the numbers go up even more.)

    Ea Rival Cometh

Some of the guys behind it formed GameCock, yeah, which I suppose could be considered a "spiritual successor" (with some actual business sense to go with the idealism this time around, hopefully).

    Ea Rival Cometh

Well, with the Pandemic/Bioware merger and then buyout by EA, and now this, the industry has gotten a lot more centralized in the past couple of months. Believe it or not there was a time when the industry was primarily composed of small companies making good, interesting games (especially on PC). But no industry can survive the transformation to mass entertainment without centralization (especially when the major companies eagerly whore themselves out to Hollywood and co.) /reminisces about the brilliant idealistic clusterfuck that was GoD

    Ea Rival Cometh

It's actually Activision and Vivendi Games, to be controlled by Vivendi Universal, but whatever... It's about time the game industry went monolithic like everything else?

    SWAT Kats was rad.

    Finnish Him!

"Gun enthusiasm" should not be a valid reason for owning a firearm. (I don't think hunting or self defense are, either, but they're at least defensible. Calling someone a "gun enthusiast" is just moronic and disgusting.)

    Call Of Duty 4 Sucks

It's really awesome, but there are bad things. They just come at the end so anyone who's not wary of shitting on the golden boy of 2007 is wary of spoiling it. (And even Yahtzee had to admit that Portal was a perfect game.)

Portal is GotY, everyone knows it. Re: MoH Airborne: Zero Punctuation's review is awesome.

    Call Of Duty 4 Sucks

As I understand it COD is primarily a singleplayer series? I heard about that one mission and was very impressed. But I also played the demo, which I figure is representative of the majority of the game, and I was at best bored and at worst disgusted and overwhelmed by the poor design.

    Transformers - The Lost Chapter

Aye. Though I'm not sure it matters if our lord and master says nay.

    Crysis Demo Out!

Oh yeah, I had an unreasonable amount of fun with the destructible trees. And don't you know that North Koreans are the new Nazis? They're even easier to dehumanize then Generic Muslim Arab Radical Jihadists. I do miss the mercenaries; they were entertaining and their roles were easily recognized by their outfits. Here everybody is generic military green. Crysis bows to the altar of "realism" and suffers for it.

    Crysis Demo Out!

I actually really liked the demo (and I didn't expect to; I had thought of Crysis as just another graphics baby for the technophiles). It strikes me as very Far Cry + Halo. I love the basic tactical gameplay -- finally, someone steals Halo's shield mechanic (and arguably does it even better), forcing players to play tactically without the overzealous punishment of instadeath at every mistake. I loved sneaking around in Far Cry and firing single-shot at distant targets, loved the feeling of crawling around the jungle with guys surrounding you, loved rampaging in the vehicles, and all this is present once more in the Crysis demo, plus the funtastic physics (shooting supports and watching a shack collapse on the baddies is great) and the gravy of suit powers make this really awesome in my opinion. Two problems I have: * I almost wish the cloak wasn't so damn effective, because as it is I tend to feel like I'm cheating with it. Stealth in Far Cry was hard but rewarding; with Crysis, as long as you don't want to be seen, you won't. I suppose I could just play without the cloak... might make for an interesting challenge. * The demo may be a blast, but leaked material indicates that Crysis will follow the same pattern as Far Cry: a few opening levels of brilliant tactical sneaking/running from squads of well-armed soldiers to reflexive kiting at super-strong, super-fast instadeath monsters. I remember well my glee in the Far Cry demo and my disappointment with the actual game, and now apparently the same damn thing is going to happen with Crysis. Fuck aliens and monsters and anything that tries to overcome AI problems with lots of health and damage.

So, What Would You Change With C&c3 Tiberium Wars?

C&C has always been on the more shallow end of the RTS spectrum, though, and fast-paced gameplay is a normal result of that. Slow, tactical gameplay is simply done better by other series; this is C&C's niche. (Not that I particularly like it that way; I'm not even really a fan of C&C anymore except by nostalgia.)
