killakanz 0 Report post Posted August 4, 2008 Why I've been so quiet the last couple of weeks: Ambassador class, NCC-26517 U.S.S. Yamaguchi. Launched in the 24th Century, she served Starfleet for some 60 years with one refit. She found herself part of Admiral Hansen's emergency response fleet gathered at Wolf 359 to defend Earth from the first Borg incursion. It is presumed the Yamaguchi was the fourth ship destroyed in the battle, when she charged the cube alongside the U.S.S. Bellerophon as the Borg tractored and neutralised the U.S.S. Saratoga. (DS9: 'Emissary') Going to make an animation with it once the textures are all done. Also an error: Her registry confused me, at first on looking at the studio model, one can quite clearly see NCC-26517 so I went with that. However, the numbers on her nacelles read NCC-26510, something I didn't notice until very close inspection. It turns out, NCC-26517 belongs to U.S.S. Excalibur (TNG: 'Redemption, Pt2' and VOY: 'Survival Instinct'). The Yamaguchi studio model was, in fact, a recycled Excalibur and since it's only on screen moment shows it flying away from camera, the studio crew didn't bother replacing the saucer's registry number. I will be correcting this on my texture.

killakanz 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2009 Only took 4 years. During which she's been lost, found, corrupted, recovered, lost again, rediscovered and put on hold for a tour of Iraq. Special thanks to the staff at Bovington Tank Museum for letting me climb up on the back of their crusader and covenanter tanks for turret roof and engine deck photos. :)

Mehman 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2009 awsome. now unwrap it and make some sweet textures and normal maps. I found nice 3ds max parallax plugin which works with normal maps, it's really exceptional and works really well.
Goose 0 Report post Posted January 9, 2009 Very very nice. If that got textured and rendered to the same standard it's been modelled, it wouldn't look out of place in a war movie.

killakanz 0 Report post Posted December 12, 2009 Running lights and lens effects test. I compressed it, then Youtube compressed it further, mucking up the quality a bit. Uncompressed it's 84.3mb. Rendering time took around 15 hours.
killakanz 0 Report post Posted January 22, 2010 I've been having a little play with the old Tiger. Back when I first thought it be finished back in Feb 2005, it was riddled with inaccuracies, bad modeling and weighed a meager 125,659 polygons. In comparison the Crusader as it stands is 445,567 polygons, three and a half times the Tiger. So, as you noticed earlier in this thread, I've been doing some tinkering now and again. The treads and all the wheels have been completely re-built from scratch, and even partly textured. The hull front is a re-make still being worked on apart from the drivers viewport and the MG-ball, those will be worked on later. The gun is brand spanking new, and the mantlet has been totally re-worked, trying to get that cast look to it. All this tinkering has already bumped the poly count upto 304,749, closing rapidly on the Crusader. I wouldn't be surprised if it's over half a million when I'm done tinkering :P So, before and afters!! :) What a difference 5 years make.
