What, the french giving aid to Iraq isn't that far fetched, they helped Iraq build a nuclear reactor capable of making weapons grade unranium, good thing Israel destroyed it, and part of the reason Germany and France didn't want too see Iraq invaded is because Saddam owed them money, nuclear reactors, bunkers and the like don't come cheap.

France gives weapons, money, and truffles to lots of midddle eastern countries in exchange for oil.

that a Nuclear Weapons Base was a Concrete Factory.

Oh yeah by the way do you guys think you will have A mortar unit because overseas right now mortars are going of in them bases.

You know what we some one needs to make, a mod where the US and UK attack France, that would be the coolest mod ever, after AAOW that is, and who knows maybe the AAOW crew will make one when they are done with AAOW, and while we're taking shots at France, I got this joke from a military web site

QUOTE
New French Threat Levels
The French Government has established new internal threat levels.  Unlike the US the French only have four such levels.  They are, from low to high:

    * RUN
    * HIDE
    * SURRENDER
    * COLLABORATE

On Saturday, in light of the Madrid bombing, France has raised its terror alert level from "RUN" to "HIDE."

Personally I think it would be hilarious if say in a Campaign Only mission, or as a cut scene you could see the infamous Iraqi information minister speech "We will drive the infidels from Iraq, the infidels are no where near Baghdad" (American Tank rolls past in the background...). It would be similar to ZH's info newscasts. laugh.gif

Salutations, I am new to this form and I find your mod quite interesting (although I must say I have not yet downloaded it – I am waiting for future release).

I read over the Fraction Manual and I think you guys have great ideas. However, I noticed that most (if not all) of the weapons are Russian-based. True, the Iraqi army used mostly Russian-based weapons, but they also used weapons and vehicles from other countries. I think you could give some of the weapons you have planed for Iraq to North Korea and replace them with non-Russian weapons to diversify the game and make it more interesting. Here are some of my ideas:

When reading the Manual, I noticed that except for Mi-24 Hind, which is campaign only, the Iraqi fraction has no transport helicopter! What if they had French SA.330 Puma or SA.332 Super Puma?

Although not in the Manual, I believe that you said on your site (when it was working) that Iraq would be using MiG-29 Fulcrums. I think this airplane would be much better suited as the basic fighter-bomber for the North Korean side since North Korea did recently buy some and since the newest versions of the plane are quite good (the newest versions are not considered a 4th generation aircraft, but 4+ generation).
Instead of the Fulcrum, Iraq should use Mirage 2000. In reality, Iraq was going to buy these planes, but the Soviets sold them the Fulcrums at an incredibly low price just so that they would not buy French weapons and continue buying Soviet weapons smile.gif .
If you do not wish to give Iraq Mirage 2000, perhaps you can give them Chinese J-10 or J-12 since in the mod China supplies Iraq with some of their best weapons.

Perhaps the BTR-T could also go to D.P.R.K. and instead, Iraq could use Brazilian EE-11 Urutu armored personal carriers. They are quiet fast and Iraq did use them.

The above are just suggestions, and it would be nice to know what the team thinks about them. If you do not like my suggestions, could you please explain why?

P.S.: in the Manual it says that the Tammuz-3 are “modified SS-27 ‘Sickle’ scud launchers”. Just so you know, SS-25 ‘Sickle’ are not SCUDs, and neather are SS-27 'Topol-M'.

The Iraqi's would get most off their Military hardware from the Russians as it would be cheaper than gettin it from the French. An Mil Mi-8 would proberly be a good transport chopper for the Iraqi's.

Not this again!

Look, all the pros and cons of Iraq using Russian and non-Russian weapons were already stated on the Ee-t1 Osσrio thread:

http://www.derelictstudios.net/forums/inde...showtopic=13923

I could however tell you one pro which was not yet stated on that thread:

If Iraq were to have an all-Russian arsenal, what arsenal would North Korea get? If their arsenal were also to consist of Russian arms, then there would be little difference between Iraq and North Korea fractions; the North Korean side could have modern Chinese or South Korean military hardware (if you wish to completely ignore the political situation, that is), but for the most part, Chinese weapons are copies of Russian weapons anyway, while South Korean weapons are very similar to USA weapons; the arsenal of D.P.R.K. could always consist of fictional weapons, but one of the reasons I personally like A.A.O.W. is because it seems to use real life weapons.

Besides, when you say that Iraq would get weapons from Russia rather than France because it would be less expensive, you forget that this is “New” Iraq, which could afford to spend more money to buy more non-Russian weapons.

On that note, let me show you an aircraft I recently found out about: Dassault Mirage 4000

Mirage 4000 is basically a scaled-up version of Mirage 2000. Although it never went past the prototype stage, some sources claim that India’s Air Force might be interested in this plane.
I think this aircraft might be better suited to serve in the Iraqi Air Force (in the mod) than the Mirage 2000 I suggested earlier since it is more original and would probably be about the same size as the Iraqi Su-37 Flanker.

Iraq would get modern, expensive, up-to-date Russian units while NoKor will get outdated but cheap and NoKor modified Soviet-era units that can easily be mass-produced. So it's quality(Iraq) versus quantity(NoKor) Fair enough?

Ok u have me there, but north korea would get its gear from the chinese, or as said abaove outdated russian gear. if i was iraq i would goto russia as they have some pretty good gear thats up to date with todays technology. For the level of technology you buy from France, you can get cheaper from the Russians. and russians sell to any one. God if only i had US$300 million.

I think it's just too early to have this kind of discussion. i mean, North Korea so far is more of an ambition than anything real as of yet (though if you devs have something up your sleeve... well i can't wait to find out).

from what i've seen, the Iraq forces' strategy in this mod is all about upgrading with fictional money, hence all the russian-type vehicles reverse-engineered and such.

maybe we need to decide what north korea's 'combat philosophy' would be before we can pick units for it (and where they come from).

It seems that the main response to non-Soviet/Russian based weapons is “Iraq would not use them since, in real life, Soviet/Russian weapons are less expensive than non-Soviet/Russian”.

That may be true most of the time. However, in real life, Iraq bought arms from a fairly large number of countries and had a considerable number of non-Soviet/Russian equipment. In fact, let us look at some of the hardware used by the Iraqi army, shall we?

Vehicles:

Soviet/Russian:
1) T-72 MBT – USSR
2) T-62 MBT – USSR
3) T-55 MBT – USSR
4) T-54 MBT – USSR
5) PT-74 amphibious tank (used on strategically important rivers like Euphrates and Tigris) – USSR
6) BRDM-1 – USSR
7) BRDM-2 – USSR
8) BMP-2 IFV – USSR
9) BMP-1 IFV – USSR
10) BTR-50 APC – USSR
11) BTR-60 APC – USSR
12) BTR-152 APC – USSR
13) BMD-1 ACV – USSR
14) MT-LB MRV – USSR
15) SU-100 SPG – USSR
16) ISU-122 SPG – USSR
17) 122 mm 2S1 SPH – USSR
18) 152 mm 2S3 SPGH – USSR
19) 240 mm 2S4 SPM – USSR
Iraqi army also operated one of the greatest tanks ever made – Soviet T-34. All were retired however just prior to the outbreak of the Gulf War.

non-Soviet/Russian:
1) AML-60/90 recce – French
2) AML-245 (Panhard M3) APC – French
3) ERC 90 Sagaie – French
4) AMX-10P ICV – French
5) 155 mm Mk F3 SPH – French
6) 155 mm GCT SPG (AUF) – French
7) Chieftain MBT – British
8) EE-9 Cascavel recce – Brazilian
9) EE-11 Urutu APC – Brazilian
10) M113 series APC – USA
11) 155 mm M109A1 SPH – USA
12) Mowag Roland – Swiss
13) M-60P APC – Yugoslavian
14) Type 59 MBT – Chinese
15) Type 69-2 MBT – Chinese
16) Type 85 YW531 APC – Chinese
17) Walid APC – Egyptian
18) OT-62 APC – Czechoslovakian
19) OT-64 APC – Czechoslovakian

“Other” (sorry folks, I could not find the country of origin for the following vehicles; if you happen to know it, please post):
PShZ-IV – ???
VCR/TR HOT TD – French??? Russian???

Aircraft:

Soviet/Russian:
1) MiG-15 Fagot (used as a trainer, not as a fighter) – USSR
2) MiG-19 Farmer – USSR
3) MiG-21 Fishbed – USSR
4) MiG-23 Flogger – USSR
5) MiG-25 Foxbat – USSR
6) MiG-29 Fulcrum – USSR
7) Su-22 Fitter – USSR
8) Su-25 Frogfoot – USSR
9) TU-16 Badger – USSR
10) TU-22 Blinder – USSR
11) An-12 Cub – USSR
12) An-2 Colt – USSR
13) An-26 Curl – USSR
14) Mi-6 Hook – USSR
15) Mi-8 / 17 Hip – USSR
16) Mi-24 Hind – USSR

non-Soviet/Russian:
1) BN-2B Islander/Defender – British
2) J-1 Jastreb – Yugoslavian
3) L-39 Albatros – Czechoslovakian
4) PC-9 – Swiss
5) PC-7 Turbo Trainer – Swiss
6) Mirage F – French
7) SA 316 Alouette III – French
8) SA.321G Super Frelon – French
9) SA.330L Puma – French
10) SA.341 Gazelle – French
11) MD-500 Defender – USA
Five Super Ιtendard aircraft were also loaned from France by Iraq during the Iraq-Iran War. All were returned in 1985.

As you can see, Iraq did use a significant number of military hardware made outside the former Soviet Union. Furthermore, there were a number of weapons that Iraq wanted to obtain, but could not for political and/or financial reasons (e.g.: French Mirage 2000, Alpha jet, Assad class corvettes (aka – Italian Lupo class frigates), etc).

Since “An Act of War” is an exaggeration of reality (like a true CnC game), I see no reason why the Iraqi arsenal cannot consist of mostly Russian and some non-Russian equipment.
