The only downside to all of these new customization features is that it might scare off newcomers since there is just so much stuff to do with your system, and the fact most newcomers most likely won't be willing to spend more than $250 on a console.

I grew to depise them because of past experience with them. I used to have them in SNES and it was a pain in the ass because it only had a 7ft signal range or something like that.

Game consoles are, and always will be a waste of money.

To all that say such things, listen close: may a bus run you over...

Have you tried anything wireless in the past 10 years or so? Wireless controllers are waaaaay better than they used to be. Since no one here has used them, give them a chance before deciding that they suck. Heck, I'm posting this with a wireless keyboard and mouse.

Well I have been wanting to try a wireless controller but the problem is that I'm broke....

Btw does the 360 require you to buy that little thing to play DVDs? I'd hate to waste money again on such a product. That would be so great if you just pop in the DVD and watch it.

No. DVD playback will be enabled by default.

I’m sorry what?
I not allowed to speak my opinion? I honestly believe that game systems are a waste of money. After all, its only $300 that I could use to make my computer better.

Or you can buy a $300 console that plays games better than a $1,000 PC. It's all about specialization. I love PC's for games, but they don't have all the games, and some things are just fun on a console. If you look at the hardware in a console system, $300 is a very good value. Check out the Xbox 360 specs, and tell me how much it would cost you to build a PC like that. And I'll give you a hint on that. You can't.

My money's on no. The reaon you even still have consoles is because developers don't have to worry about getting a game to run on numerous systems specs, just one set. Adding upgradability would either leave many people out of new games, or not allow games to use full power.

Hard drive will be. That's all as far as I know. The point of a console is to have a standard set of hardware that can be used, and you can tweak, optimize, and make it run as fast as possible. PC development is many times harder, as you have to worry about many combinations of hardware, and can't optimize too much for a single platform. Otherwise others will suffer too much.

Yeah, I still prefer PCs in that I like having the ability to modify my games after I've finished playing them. Plus I don't buy computers soley for gaming, I use them for word processing, working in photoshop and 3d studio as well as other graphics intensive programs.

If I had an extra 300-400 bucks to spend on a console, I might consider it, but I need to save my money now and think about other things like grad school.

Consoles are exceedingly good at what they do. They play games. I personally plan to have an Xbox 360 sitting next to my PC, running through a TV tuner to play on my monitor.

you need to run it through a TV tuner to play on your monitor?? I thought the whole point was high-def video for this generation, it should support DVI cable no?

Possibly, but that would involve unhooking the monitor from my PC. I'll be happy to run it through a tuner.

A TV Tuner is not needed. You will need, however, a VIVO capable video card. Failing that, a TV Tuner will suffice.

i knew someone will post this..... i was going to yesterday, but fear the phrase "old news"

hopefully, i'll have enough money to either get it at Uni (1 and half yaer to go) or share one with roommate.
it looks great if you dont count:
-the xbox's icon with a green ring surrounding it, looks like SkyPlus's idea
-the white case makes me think it's a Mac
-the controller's trigger buttons (4 now) looks like from GameCube
apart from those, this will rock with the new:
-Halo2.5
-Perfect Dark Zero
and 13 more
